WANTED: ART AND ACTION AROUND QUEERS AND THE CIVIL WAR
One of the hard truths about living in Appalachia and the South is that we live among so much Civil War bullshit. We have Civil War battlefields, Confederate Soldier statues, Confederate flags at every turn, Civil War museums, Civil War memorials and Civil War reenactments that local politicians say bring much needed tourism dollars to our communities. We want to see the ways that you subvert that narrative in your communities, your subtle acts of resistance, and ways of reclaiming the space for the very people that are victims of it.
It may be Hedwig'n/glamming up a flyer for a local reenactment.
It may be helping your town include more accurate historical plaques and markers for recognized sites that aren't whitewashed in colonialism.
It could even be making a banner and going to a rally.
